Netflix has a rich collection of movies that span numerous genres, time periods, and languages. And so finding a movie to watch becomes very difficult. That is why we have compiled a list of eight movies that you should definitely watch on Netflix:

Boyhood was filmed over 12 years by Richard Linklater with the same actors. It traces the life of a young boy over this time period in a very authentic manner. We see Mason, the lead character, grow up in front of our eyes. He has his birthdays, road trips, graduations – everything that constitutes a childhood. It is a beautiful movie that will take you down the memory lane effortlessly. The soundtrack is brilliant too, with names like Coldplay and Arcade Fire.

 Otherhood

 

It is Mother’s Day, and three mothers have not been wished yet by their sons. Carol, Helen, and Gillian are determined to reconnect with their sons, who are adults now and making their way through life. It shows us some really raw moments that come with motherhood, and the struggle for individuality it often brings along with it. The three women are able to reconnect with each other and with themselves too as they make a trip to New York City in search of better relationships with their sons.

Black Panther

 

Even if you haven’t watched the previous Marvel movies, you can thoroughly enjoy Black Panther. It is the story of Prince T’Challa after he comes back to Wakanda after Captain America: Civil War. Though he is the new king here, he is being opposed by factions within the country. As events progress, Black Panther has to step up and save Wakanda from its enemies, with the help of the CIA and Wakandan special forces.

 Ex Machina

 

Ex Machina is a classic sci-fi movie. The movie begins with a genius programmer winning a company competition and making his way to spend a week with the CEO. In this far-flung house, he sees high tech facilities and equipment. As time goes on, he realizes that he needs to partake in unsettling experiments so that he can interact with AI. The movie shows us how we deal with extremely real AI and gives the viewers many questions to think about.

 Someone Great

 

Someone Great is a feel-good movie that is about three best friends – Jenny, Erin, and Blair. It starts off with Jenny getting broken up with her longtime boyfriend. What follows is an emotional patchwork of flashbacks and songs that tell us more about their relationship. Throughout the movie, each one of the friends does something that challenges them or brings out a new side to them. This movie shows us how beautiful friendships can be. Watch it with your best friend and get ready for some tears – happy and sad, both!

 The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind

Based on a real-life story, this movie is set in Malawi. It tells the tale of a young boy who pushes against all odds and saves his village in the event of a famine. At a time when he has to sneak into school for books and education, this boy manages to find all the tools required to “harness the wind.” The movie offers a brutally honest insight into the lives and struggles of the Malawian people. Directed by Chiwetel Ejiofor, this movie will surely inspire young ones to “live in the solution,” as the director himself puts it.

Dumplin’

 

Willowdean Dickson has felt like an outsider all her life. Her mom is famous and is a beauty queen. She struggles to form her own self-esteem and confidence in the face of all this. As a form of protest, Dumplin’, as her mother calls her, sets out to take part in the pageant – much to everyone’s scorn and amusement, both.

 Mamma Mia!

 

Mammia Mia! will transport you to a beautiful Greek island with the evergreen music by ABBA. Sophie is planning her wedding and has secretly invited three men to the big day. She knows that one of them is her father, and hopes to find out the answer soon. Mamma Mia! is an absolute classic and what’s more, it has Meryl Streep in it!
