With productivity increasingly becoming one of the buzzwords and key aspects of the work world we live in, each of us is called upon to step up to the plate, and deliver. Not just that, but to deliver more with increasing frequency and pressure. Now, we’ve put together five TED Talks packed with insights and inspiration to help you power past these incessant and taxing productivity demands. So let’s get right to them right away!
Shawn Achor: The Happy Secret to Better Work
Positivity may be just the thing to get your productivity figures up! Shawn Archer, CEO of Good Think Inc, does definitely think so, and backs this theory up with convincing scientific data and case studies, as well. He clearly believes that it’s only a ‘happy brain’ that can produce consistently, and you will too. Give his talk a listen here!
Yves Morieux: How Too Many Rules at Work Keep You From Getting Things Done
Uncluttering and un-muddling your life, and especially your life at work could hold the key to be more productive. It makes perfect sense when you think about it, doesn’t it? What’s more, this TED Talk by Yves Morieux, a business consultant, presents sufficient evidence to back up his theory. In his talk, Morieux describes how productivity figures have plunged since the ‘50s, and much of it has to do with the many maze-like systems and rules we have at the workplace that do little to streamline our work. Not convinced? Then you’d have to watch his talk here to find out now, won’t you?
Kelly McGonigal: How to Make Stress Your Friend
Stress at the workplace has claimed too many co-workers to name, and you may even count yourself as one of them. The stress and incessant pressure can be crippling and stifling, and it’s easy to see why it can adversely affect productivity. In this talk, Kelly McGonigal, a Stanford Psychologist, provides answers that can help you deal with stress, without getting more stressed out in the process! Surprisingly also, winning this considerable battle with stress will help you do more, and do things better. Her game-changing talk can be found here.
Paolo Cardini: Forget Multitasking, Try Monotasking
Juggling a myriad number of things all at once is a way of life that we invariably have to come to grips with in the post-modern world. What’s more, like a hamster on a wheel, we keep going on endlessly, with no real end in sight, and without actually pausing to gauge if it’s worthwhile. Paolo Cardini thinks that it’s the point where we’re all going wrong, and strongly proposes that we revert to concentrating on one task at a time, instead of keeping our balls in the air all at once. Get the lowdown on his theory on monotasking here, it may just be exactly what you need to be more productive.
Dan Pink: The Puzzle of Motivation
This rather poignant TED talk by Dan Pink gets right to the heart of the matter – he explains how our productivity at the workplace can significantly be influenced by how passionate, motivated and up for it, we are to do our jobs. Now, this is something that we’re sure we’re all aware of, but only acknowledge in passing, before dismissing it altogether. Pink, an expert on the subject of motivation, throws in a fair bit of science, and let us know how we can tap into that pivotal amount of motivation that can easily help us shift our productivity into overdrive. This inspirational talk can be found here, and we do suggest you give it a whirl.
So there you have it, get to these five TED talks today, and give your productivity the boost it’s always been crying out for!
