Who doesn’t love a good tan? A beach glow over your skin is all you need sometimes. But let’s be honest, most times the tanning is uneven. For outdoor people, tan lines and uneven skin tone are a major hassle. There are many products in the markets that one can opt for. From face packs to facials and face scrubs to body scrubs, they all claim to even out your skin tone and leave you glowing in 20 minutes. Not to mention the dent in the pocket they’ll leave.

But if you could get rid of that tan using things from your kitchen, that would be pretty great too, right? So here we have a few tried and tested home remedies to get an even skin-tone!

 Beetroot and Rice 

This is one of our favorite home remedies for de-tanning. It works instantaneously and is quite a wonder. All you need is one fourth a cup each of boiled rice and beetroot. Add 4 tablespoons lemon juice and some aloe vera to it. Put all of this in a blender and blend into a nice smooth paste. Don’t add all the aloe vera at once, keep adding a little at a time until the mixture is smooth enough to apply.

Once you have the mixture, apply it to your skin. You can use it on any part of your body. Just leave it on for 20 minutes and then wash off with water. Use this mixture on alternate days.

 Tomatoes

Yes, you heard that right. Keep those fresh tomatoes stocked for not just salads and Italian food, but for your skin too. Cut up a tomato or two, depending on the amount of skin you want to use it for, and mash them up. Once nicely mashed, remove the pulp and apply the leftover juice on the skin. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes and then wash it off. This trick can be used daily.

 Papaya

This fruit is one of the best natural ingredients for all skin related things. You can use this for making scrubs, masks or literally anything. To de-tan your skin using papaya, you need no additions at all. Just take a thin slice of the fruit and rub it onto your skin. You’ll feel the papaya juice turn slightly sticky with the movement, but let it stay, don’t remove it. After 20 minutes, wash it off. This trick can be used up to twice a day.

 Potatoes

Potato juice is one of the fastest ways to de-tan your skin. Just take a few potatoes and chop them up into fine pieces, better yet grate them. Pop it into the mixer till it’s nicely shredded. Don’t add anything extra. Once shredded, squeeze out the juice and put it in a bowl. To the bowl, add 1-2 tablespoon lemon juice, depending on the amount of potato juice. Apply this mixture onto your skin, you can use cotton to do it since the juice will be very runny. Leave the juice on your skin for half an hour and then wash off! Use this trick daily to retain an even skin-tone.

 Some Additional Tips

  • It’s best to use fresh ingredients because you’ll always get the best results from those.
  • When washing your skin, always use lukewarm or cold water. If the water is too hot, it will scald your skin.
  • When it comes to aloe vera, gel from the store works just fine. But if you have an aloe vera plant to squeeze out fresh gel from, nothing like it.
  • Always moisturize your skin after you use one of these tricks.
  • If the de-tanning trick you used involved aloe vera, avoid sun exposure for an hour thereafter.
  • Using these tricks is always good, but a good sunscreen with an SPF suited to your skin is the best solution.
